Room Controls Help |

Hello again, my beautiful people. Today I bring you the Newbie Room Owner's Comprehensive Guide to Room Controls. Here, I will explain all the important dealies you need to fiddle with in order to get your room in tip-top shape. We start, from the beginning.
Step One: Sign in. Easily the most important step of them all, as otherwise you'll be unable to get to your Room Control Panel, sitting in front of your computer, hypnotized by the animated banner graphic on the front page! Speaking of the Room Control Panel, that is the option you need to click on your menu. A screen will come up with a table and a button - select the name of your room (there should only be the one, anyway) and click the Details button.
This'll bring you to a list of options. Since it's at the top of the list, we'll start with the Settings. There's really not much to say about this - you'll really only need to do it once. To start with, you don't need to bother with the Language Options, Guest Restrictions, or HTML Tag Restrictions. Just leave them at the defaults. What you need to focus on is the Image Height and Image Width fields. Enter in a number (I suggest 350 for each, or 400 if you feel particularly lenient) and click Save. This limits the size of the graphics that people can use. Anything pictures that go over the size limit (in pixels) will show up as an image link in your room. When you've done this, you can click the Back button or hit Back on your browser.
Next on the list we have Design. This is the second most important step in the process, 'cuz this is how you'll customize your room and having a customized room is important! You'll probably either need to know HTML, or need someone who knows HTML, or if all else fails set out a trap for one of the admin (or, y'know, e-mail them) and they'll help you get your room set up. Now, prepare for boringness as I explain exactly what you need to do in here: - Seperator: This is what automatically goes between each of the posts in your room. Most commonly, it's a long, squat graphic centered in the middle of the page. It can also be a string of text, but I don't recommend that as it can get confused with the text of the posts. The default for SC rooms is a barbed-wire graphic, but for customized goodness you need your own graphic. You'll need to use the "center" and "img src" HTML code, or otherwise all you get in the room will be the URL of the pic, and not the pic itself.
- Page Header: This is the top of the page in the chatroom itself. Most commonly, people put a small graphic with the room name here, a "Welcome to the Teletubbies RP Room (Hey, it could happen)" message and/or a couple links to the room homepage or e-mail or whatever. Also, if you're going for a custom background for your room instead of the basic black, the HTML command for that goes in this field.
- Page Footer: Like the Page Header, only it's at the bottom of the page, y'know?
- Communications Panel Header: Not something you need to worry about. If you don't already have the following string of HTML in this field, than copy-paste it in. <:head>
<base href="http://www.silvercrossings.net/">
</head>>
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#FFFFFF" TOPMARGIN=0>
- Communications Panel: This is something to worry about. This is the comm panel for your room, where people will type in their witty words and thence be able to post them. See the spiffy SC tutorial for comm panels if you need help with this.
- Splash Page: This is the bit that goes to the right of the Who's On list when you first come into the room. For this, we have another equaly-spiffy help page!
When you're done, hit Save. If you think you've made a boo-boo, you can hit the Reset button and it will automatically reset all the fields to your last saved settings.
Now, if you'll follow me, we'll move on to Bans. Bans is pretty simple. You got your field where you enter in the name of somebody you want banned - all you need is one of their character names, not their sign-in. You type the name in the field marked "Character Name," click Add, and that person is banned (don't worry about the "Length of Days" option. At this moment, all bans are indefinate until you manually unban the person.) If you want to unban someone, you click on the appropriate name in the ban list (the names in the ban list are the person's sign-in names, keep in mind) and then click Delete. Pretty easy, eh?
Further moving on, we have Picture Bans. Also simple. If someone comes into your room with an inappropriate picture, then you get the URL of the pic, stick it into the Picture URL field, and hit Add. This bans the picture from the entire system and every room. If you wish to get rid of the ban, simply click on the URL in the list and hit Delete.
This is so fascinating, isn't it?
Further further moving on - Language Filter. This is especially helpful for rooms of a less adult nature, where swear words are not allowed. Any word you add will be appear as a bunch of asterisks when used in the room. This goess for parts of words, too. Example! Say for some reason you have a particular thing about the word "bet" and you filter it outta the room. Everytime someone uses the letter combination "bet" it will show up in the room as "***" So "betrayal" will be "***rayal" and "betwixt" will become "***wixt" Removal by the usual way.
Now for Moderators. Moderators is pretty darn important as well, as it lets you assign your room moderators by putting their sign-in names in the box and hitting Add. You should automatically be on this list, as well as the admin.
And lastly we have Room Logs for Past Day, which is a nifty little feature that lets you see all the public posts that have occured in your room in the last 24 hours, sans pictures.
Whew! That covers it! Of course, if you have any problems, feel free to roust one of the admin and they'll be happy to help.
